The PIBA 2017 London Seminar Series commences with "Understanding Claims for Back Injuries and Expert Reports”
Speaker: Dr Margaret Bloom, Barrister at Hardwicke (and former GP)
Topics covered:
- Making sense of expert reports: a brief look at the anatomy & physiology of the spine;
- Addressing a common problem: understanding what the expert really means & reading between the lines of a report;
- A quick look at examination of the spine & the meaning/implications of common descriptions, such as Waddell’s signs, organic/ non-organic pain, malingering or not etc;
- Acceleration & exacerbation: what do experts mean (or think they mean)?
- The interaction of orthopaedic, pain management & psychology expert evidence;
You should determine how this fits into your individual CPD plan, but the following is a suggestion from PIBA:
Learning objective for CPD plans: to gain an understanding of basic anatomy/physiology, examination techniques and terminology used by medical experts in back injury cases.
Learning rationale for CPD plans: to enable attendees to improve their understanding of expert reports and techniques, what the expert really means and the implications; and which expert(s) should be instructed in different types of back injury litigation.
Free to PIBA members and their pupils. No need to book. 1 hour of CPD accreditation (provider number 1728).
The seminar will be followed by light refreshments.
